Five-member idol group SS501 will wrap up their activities in Korea this week and focus more on working overseas, according to their agency on Monday.

The band, currently promoting their latest single "Love Like This" from their mini-album "REBIRTH", will go abroad for a while after completing their schedules up till the end of this week, DSP Media said in a press release.

The boy band was well-received in Asia this year, particularly in countries such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and China, and plan to carry out more promotional work in such markets to build a stronger fan base, DSP explained.

The quintet debuted in 2005 with single "Warning" and have been active in Korea and Japan, releasing numerous albums both as a group and also pursuing individual careers such as acting and appearing in variety shows.

The group made a comeback to the music scene last month with their second mini-album "REBIRTH" which topped various music charts.

They are scheduled to perform at Hong Kong's Expo Arena on December 12 as part of their ongoing Asia tour.

Five-member boy band SS501 took their first win for their new song on a music show aired by major broadcaster KBS on Friday.

The group won the award for the No. 1 song on "Music Bank" with their latest single "Love Like This", beating out last week's winner SHINee and another contender Baek Ji-young.

Their victory comes three weeks after the release of their mini-album "Rebirth", through which the group made a comeback to the local music scene for the first time in a year and seven months.

They were unable to perform on the show however, due to holding a concert at Shanghai's Hongkuo Soccer Stadium tomorrow as part of their Asia tour.

SS501, who debuted in June 2005, is one of the most popular K-pop acts in Asia. The group has had numerous hits singles in Korea and Japan, and some of the members have branched out to acting and musical theater as well.

SOHU: Your newly released mini album REBIRTH has had good results in Korea, congratulations. Fans are very concerned about the next studio album, when will it be planned for release?

Hyunjoong: We too hope for it to be released soon, and in order to let it be fulfilled we’ll work even harder. (Other four members clap)


SOHU: Do you have any hopes of getting awards at the year-end award ceremonies? Currently, SS501 ranks first for the Overseas Popularity Award on the MAMA website, how do you guys feel about that?

Jungmin: Ah, because this award is based on votes by the fans, and it also is about popularity overseas, I believe that our Chinese fans have contributed a lot to the results so thank you. Please continue supporting us, and of course, our newest mini album REBIRTH as well!


SOHU: Now that the members have started to try out lyrics writing and song composing, have you guys ever thought of releasing an album that is fully produced by the group?

Hyungjoon: Up til now, all of us have had the experience of writing our own songs. This time in REBIRTH, the five of us have also written a set of lyrics specially for our fans. So you never know, our next album might just be full of songs by us; lyrics, melody and all. We are singer, song writer, SS501! (SS501 is pronounced in a Chinese accent, and Jungmin laughs non-stop at the side)


SOHU: It’s been five years since your debut, what has been the biggest gain and losses so far?

Hyunjoong: Five years isn’t a long period of time, but neither is it a short period of time. In this timespan, we’ve had many international and Korean fans, and our popularity has been “up~down~up~”, that kinda thing. All of this is actually rather interesting, because until now, SS501 finally has its own colour and specialties. From now on, we’ll repay everyone with music that has the colour of SS501.


SOHU: Then what plans are in store for the next five years?

Youngsaeng: I think that five years down the road, SS501 will still be making music together, and show more individual charisma via different individual activities. And I think that us then will still be the same, we’ll keep walking on in our present state. (Everyone claps)


SOHU: Even though leader has reverted from “Yoon Jihoo” back to “Kim Hyunjoong”, will SS501, and not only just leader, attempt to do dramas if good productions come knocking? Also, what kind of roles do the members want to try their hands at?

Kyujong: The five of us have actually been preparing , Jungmin has honed his acting skills via his musical, and Hyungjoon’s drama will be broadcasted soon. The five of us concentrate fully on our individual activities, and Hyunjoong-hyung should have new dramas soon. So please do not just support our music projects, but also give your support to our other activities such as acting, DJ-ing and hosting.

Youngsaeng: I’m ok with any role, (Kyujong imitates a boxer at the side), the character that Hyunjoong plays in Boys Over Flowers is a role I’d like to try out too.

Hyunjoong: Our group’s herbivourous guy, the person who is most concerned about his health, will answer the question: Jungmin.
Jungmin: The members have been consistent in maintaining our energy levels. Like me, I’ll eat all kinds of ginseng in order to replenish my energy. And in my opinion, your attitude is the most important when you face jobs of high stress levels. On the night of October 17, Korean Idol group SS501 help a concert at Taipei Arena as part of their Asia tour entitled "Persona Tour." This is the second time they have visited Taiwan since their overseas promotions back in earlier July.

Sam Chen, president of Warner Music, even personally brought the boys steamed buns and Trà sữa (milk teas). With so much anticipation, the boys worked hard to prepare for the concert even practicing until midnight the night before.

On October 16 at the press conference, President Sam Chen when handed the platinum record to SS501 said "Thanks to SS501, we have achieved optimal selling record this year. Our bonuses and holidays awarded to company staff will hopefully come from this profit."

Right after the President's speech, the boys immediately followed up "Can we go on holidays with your staff too?", "Can we go to Hawaii?".

During the conference, Park Jung Min gave fan a special performance of the song Tian Mi Mi (Sweetness). Hyun Joon then commented, "Jung Min often hides in his hotel room to concentrate/practice. I have also heard him sing other songs, I think Hyung (Anh. Older male) could probably achieve [at singing Mandarin songs] 90%." While Kyu Jong commented, "He practices very hard. The concert was different than all prior concerts held at Taipei Arena; 50 staff members from Korea came with SS501 to Taiwan for preparation and 100 different outfits were prepared for stand by. Appearing on the colorful stage, SS501 even gave 11,000 fans chocolate. The show really did deserve a red ribbon.

SS501 performed various songs including the popular "Deja Vu", A song calling for you, Warnin and Four Chance. The concert also contained solo performances such as “Hey G”, “Never Let You Go” and “Please be nice to me”. That night, Jung Min had the opportunity to sing the song Tian Mi Mi in its' entirely. As a bonus, SS501 performed two new songs [Never performed Live anywhere elss] called, “Crazy 4 U” and "Pea Princess".

Fans particularly favored the performance of "Please be nice to me" by Leader Kim Hyun Joong. The female fans were treated to a "hot boy" image when Hyun Joong began tearing his own shirt on stage in the middle of the song.

After the success of the concert, SS501 returned to Korea were they will be releasing a new mini album called "Rebirth."

Recently, korean Idol Kim Hyun Joong and the rest of SS501 arrived in Taiwan for the White Golden Disk Award and personal concert. When the boys arrived, Taiwanese fans filled the aiport to greet the five handsome boys, in particular Kim Hyun Joong was surrounded by a mob of fans. SS501 returned to Korea on 18 October (Sunday) with 1000 fans swarming the airport to send them off, including 60 Korean, Japanese and Hong Kong fans who crossed the immigration gates with them. Some Korean fans even took the same plane with them back to Korea.

SS501’s company DSP Entertainment said on 6-Oct “Kim KyuJong had been selected as the main lead for webtoon drama ‘SETI’ recently.” With this, Kim KyuJong has become the 2nd member in SS501 after Kim HyunJoong to have a side career in acting.
